An enthusiastic crew from Briar Woods High School joined naturalists Mike Dudash and Mike DeMary from River & Trail Outfitters River Quest Field School to learn about the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This guided two-mile canoe trip on the Shenandoah was a classroom on the river including discussions of riparian buffers, runoff, and a hands-on macroinvertebrate study—the best indicator of the river’s health.
There is no doubt that everyone came away with a better understanding of the words “we all live downstream.”
Thanks to River & Trail and Briar Woods High School for all of the arrangements and to the Downstream Project for photographs and this video.
