On Saturday, September 25, an enthusiastic crew from Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church joined naturalists Mike Dudash and Mike DeMary from River & Trail Outfitters River Quest Field School to learn about the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This guided two-mile canoe trip on the Shenandoah was a classroom on the river including discussions of riparian buffers, runoff, and a hands-on macroinvertebrate study—the best indicator of the river’s health.
There is no doubt that everyone came away with a better understanding of the words “we all live downstream.”
Thanks to River & Trail, John Gonano, and Josh Nolan for all of the arrangements and to the Downstream Project for photographs and this video. Special thanks to Steve DeVries for allowing us to use his original composition, “A Walk in the Woods.”
