Soundings: A Summer sail from the Chesapeake to New England

This week, Downstream’s Executive Director Bill Howard is sailing away. No, he’s not leaving us, just joining skipper and friend Lex Birney and four others on a weeklong cruise up the Chesapeake and the Mid-Atlantic coast. After reaching Cape Cod on Lex’s 51-foot Apogee sloop Arcadia, the crew will take her into port at Stonington, Connecticut in Long Island Sound.

Along the way, Bill will be sharing his journey, photos, and observations of the Bay and coastal waters on the Downstream blog. So if you’re stuck onshore this week dreaming of all those beautiful waters downstream, follow the Arcadia in real time with our Google Map tracker, read about Bill’s excellent adventures on our blog, and see his images of life on the water yourself. It’s the next best thing to being there.

Soundings: The Back Story

This story was first posted in July of 2014, but provides a little back story to my ongoing adventures on the good ship Arcadia and my good friend Lex Birney’s entry into the Annapolis Bermuda Race 2016. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch […]
